Spook-O-Ree & Camp Halloween 2021

What is Spook-O-Ree?

Spook-O-Ree is the Cub Scout Pack 571 annual family campout.

Every year we have an overnight camping experience collocated with Camp Halloween. This makes it a fun time for everyone, mixing overnight camping with attending a Scout Day Camp, where there are a lot of fun activities.

When is Spook-O-Ree?

Spook-O-Ree 2021 is on Saturday, October 9th to Sunday October 10th.

What is Camp Halloween?

Camp Halloween is a Day Camp run by the Chief Seattle Council of the BSA. It is open to all registered Scouts in the greater Seattle area (that includes Pack 571).

Day Camps are a great opportunity for Scouts to experience fun activities including crafting, outdoor skills, cooking, and even archery and BB guns (under official supervision, of course).  Bear Scouts and above can also earn their Whittling Chip while learning about pocket knife safety.

Do I need to know how to camp?

Camping experience is always a plus, but even if you have never camped a day in your life this can be a very fun event. There will be lots of experienced leaders and Scouts on hand to assist in setting up your tent and anything else you may need.

Do I need to bring my own gear?

This year there are no cabins available for camping in, so each family needs their own tent. If you don't own a tent the Pack may have some tents available on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you are thinking of buying a tent, the Pack leadership can offer suggestions on what kind of tent to get.

Each camper should have their own sleeping bag, and we recommend one rated for as low as 20-degrees F (although it is unlikely to get that cold).

You should also plan to have an air mattress, cot or sleep pad to provide some insulation from the ground. Nothing is worse than sleeping on cold ground.

What about food?

The Pack 571 leadership (and any adult volunteers) will be cooking dinner and breakfast for the Pack participants. During the day camp, a lunch will be provided to the participants.

If you have any dietary restrictions, please ensure you let your Den Leader know. We will have vegetarian options available.

Dinner typically consists of "camp food" - things that we can easily cook on a grill or propane stove top (HOBO tin-foil meals are always popular - The Best Hobo Packet Recipes for Camping - BestCamping.com). We will also have a post-dinner dessert. Breakfast will include muffins, fruit, juices, and coffee for the adults.

How much does it cost?

There are a few costs to register (we are sorry if this seems complicated).

  • Overnight camping is $10 per family/tent. This is to help pay for the food, drinks and campsite.
  • Camp Halloween registration is $35/Scout and $10/Adult (siblings and non-Scouting friends are $10).

The Pack will collect all of the payments and register all of the participants together.

How do I sign up?

Please read our short How-To Guide for registration. When you register you will need to select how many tents will be overnight camping (typically 1), and how many Scouts and adults will be attending Camp Halloween, and on which day (Saturday or Sunday).
